What matters now

Selected developments, and what they ask of enterprise systems.

Regulatory and implementation developments read through tax interpretation, ERP configuration, master data, transaction classification, controls and evidence. Curated and reviewed periodically, not monitored in real time.

  1. UAE e-invoicingPublished analysis

Business transactions and taxable supplies do not share a perimeter

Nitin Agarwal examines the distinction between the VAT taxable-supply perimeter and the UAE electronic invoicing Business Transaction perimeter, with implications for tax logic, enterprise data, systems and controls.

    What this means for enterprises

A transaction can fall inside the electronic invoicing perimeter without being a taxable supply, and the reverse. The distinction has to be carried in transaction classification and tax logic, not resolved by the person reviewing the exception.

The metal-scrap reverse charge decides the invoice, not only the VAT

The FTA has clarified the domestic reverse charge on metal scrap. The condition that decides the VAT treatment also decides which document the supplier issues under the electronic invoicing system.

    What this means for enterprises

Treat the recipient declaration as a master-data attribute with a validity state, rather than as a document filed after the fact. It drives tax determination, invoice type, VAT return mapping and the evidence the position rests on.

Verification now sits before the input tax deduction

Supplier and supply verification became a condition of input tax deduction from 1 October 2026, placing the work in vendor onboarding, purchasing and accounts payable.

    What this means for enterprises

The verification acts sit outside the tax department, in procure-to-pay, while the tax consequence lands on the input tax line. Much of the evidence is point-in-time and is created as the business goes, rather than reconstructed later.

Six cases for recovering input tax on employee expenses

Input tax recovery on benefits provided to employees free of charge now rests on two instruments read together, and on conditions that are satisfied inside policy, process and evidence.

    What this means for enterprises

Recovery under this route is evidenced in three places at once: a contract or documented policy, the expense categorisation that reaches the tax determination, and the records that show each condition was satisfied at the time.

How this is maintained

Tracker entries cite an official source per jurisdiction and carry a review date; the research behind them was last formally reviewed on 11 Oct 2026. Updates are published against the published text of a decision or specification rather than secondary reporting. Resources are revised as practice changes rather than on a schedule.

Corrections are welcome. If something here reads as out of date, tell us and we will check it against the source.
